CGM - Corn Gluten Meal. It is a organic way of fertlizing and preventing weeds. I found some on the way home at Homested Gardens. It is a lot more expensive than I was expecting. I am looking at some other products that will alow me to have new grass seed grow while I try and get rid of the crabgrass.
Corn gluten meal apparently does tend to be expensive. Have you tried any of the feed stores? You can't use it when you're trying to get new grass seed to grow -- but that's what you were saying, right?
FYI...I tried calling TSC in Leesburg. I talked with the guy that handles the livestock feed section and he says he has never herd of Corn Gluten Meal.
Thanks Blue Heron that was exactly my first response. Then I promptly decided "if you know where to get it.... you most likely know what it is too. Mystery solved.
jsteele, Here you go, not in Maryland but McLean may be close enough if you are on the American Legion side. Also some useful discussion, as well as pricing. Suz
Last year I saw some at a local garden center. I think it was Johnson's garden center in Gaithersburg. I don't remember what size or how much it cost, but I remember it would have cost me just under $200 to treat my entire lawn at the recommended rate. I think I'll stick with halts.
