I'd suspect that it'd work as well as a Japanese Beetle trap would. If you plant far enough away that they don't discover your salad bar, and go for the neighbor's instead, maybe. Otherwise, they'd be doing the happy dance, eating, drinking, and making merry, and we all know that no good can come out of merry making by the deer.

One year I planted about 2/3 of my (way too large) vegetable plot in clover. The deer loved it and left my veggies alone. Research has shown that farmers who plant a strip of clover around their fields have much less damage to the crops from deer. That said, the size of area you're dealing with will make a lot of difference. A small area planted in deer food will just attract them but not satisfy them enough to keep them out of the plants you want to protect.

I heard that you can plant a variety of plants that deer like and repel them too. The secret is to plant the "bait" crop just inside a single strand of electrified fence. While they are getting their first bites they get a jolt that will make them respect the fence. I have a 6 wire deer fence around my property but unless the electric is turned on(not since October) they run through it and enen pull it off the posts. It takes awhile to retrain them. Usually some cull apples dumped along the base of the fence will work. My point is that deer will seek out a variety of food sources unless you can redirect their attention. Chances are that they will eat whatever you plant for them and then head for your garden plants for dessert.
