I need helpful ideas for hiding an unsightly concrete block retaining wall. I would prefer something evergreen but I also welcome ideas for shrubs or small blooming trees. Here is the layout: first, the concrete wall is about 4 feet high and has a nice wooden fence on top. Then, on the side facing my house is a five foot bed of soil, then a 15 inch river rock sitting wall, then a flagstone patio. At first I was thinking arborvitae would work, but now I think they would grow too large.

This is such a wonderful group. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Also I plan to come to the swap ON TIME this spring year and bring items that I owe you fabulous folks from the last swap (mainly weigelia) and something special for the nice person who gave me a wonderful large hosta as a consolation prize when I came after everyone was gone. Alas the Alberta spruces I had brought did not make it through the winter in their pots so I won't have those.
