Deer with some 'high class ' taste buds

I did a "test" planting on witch hazel with two cheepie domestic plants. They remained untouched for a week so... I took the plunge and planted "Arnold Promise" beween them.

This morning I found the Expensive one nibbled down to a nub. The other two remain untouched. I'm going to build a cage of chicken wire around the stubb but I'd rather eat venison for revenge.

I know I've been going on about the witch hazel for months now but I just needed to vent a bit )q: sorry.

I feel your pain. I usually pay people to destroy my plants. (Workers with large feet doing my obligatory spring home repair projects.) How about a deer fence around the area? I had my patio fenced as playpen for dog and the bonus is that the racoons no longer have parties in the garbage cans. I'm grateful that deer haven't found me yet.
