Ack!! I have two lilacs, still in the pots. They both have a couple of blossoms, but one also has some leaf curling. I know nothing about this - Lilacs just ARE, where I come from, they don't need fiddling with...

I'm also a newbie, so any advice from some of you well-seasoned folks would be most helpful!

A number of my lilacs usually get powdery mildew but much later in the season. It's worse on my larger full trees that don't get good airflow through the branches. The trees get quite a bit of leaf drop from it and I dispose of the leaves in sealed bags but that's about it, no real damage. I don't use any chemicals so I just kind of deal with it. Powdery mildew and Black Spot disease are the reason I've given up trying to grow roses here.

OK, so today I have removed all of the branches that held leaves that were curling or discolored. Now there's not much left of this little bush. Some new little shoots are coming up out of the ground and they look healthy. I dipped my shears in bleach between cuts and wrapped up the offending greenery in a plastic bag, tightly sealed off. I looked at my neighbors' plants and they all look perfectly healthy! Is there anything else I should do? I'd hate to lose this little shrub. It is a sorry sight right now.
