I have both a Kousa Dogwood (came with the house so have no idea which particular variety) and a white Crepe Myrtle. I like both. The dogwood definitely would fit your space and is a perfectly fine tree. I find it kind of boring outside of when its in bloom but it does give some structure to the yard. The crepe myrtle I got was a smaller one (will have to check my notes as to the exact one I have) and I like it because with the interesting bark it gives nice year round interest. I will say that usually dwarf/smaller varieties are also slow growing. Mine is now about one story high in height and I've had it for about eleven years-just something to keep in mind.
