| Last Fall, at the Cylburn Arboretum, I saw the most amazing show of purple. A huge circle of Japanese Beautyberries showing off the purple berries (the foliage had gone). I have got to have two of these together in my garden.
The light requirements are confusing: some say full sun; others say partial. Anyone with experience with Callicarpa japonica?

I have 2 varieties in hugely hot, dry, sun. They do beautifully. I don't know how well they do by seed, but you can have handfulls in the fall. The birds eventually eat them, but they make gorgeous purple berries. Chrisrine

They use it as a hedge at UMES in Princess Anne. It seems to be pretty tolerant and looks good

Thanks Christine and Beth! I'll plant in full sun. That's how it is at cylburn too. Anyone know a good source for these? the local nurseries won't get them in till early to mid summer.

I also plant mine in full sun. They are a hardy shrub and do quite well with benign neglect. Karyn
