Christine, the two round pots (6 or 7 in each pot)shound have had an index card attached by elastic, and labeled 'Hellibore hybridus.' Those are sometimes incorrectly referred to as 'orientalis' if that helps. They are singles in shades of pink and burgandy. I'd pot them up individually and let them grow on for a year before putting them in the ground. They'll overwinter in pots just fine.

did these self seed or did you actually start them from seed? if so was it hard to start them from seed? i got seedlings last year and put them in the ground and they did fine over the winter and now look full sized, i think they may bloom next year

however, my virginia bluebells did not bloom this year, any advice?

Christine, the H. x hybridus you got from me should bloom white to pink.

Kathleen, hellebores are not difficult to start from seed provided you give them warm/cold/warm. To speed things along, you can collect them in the spring and put them in a plastic bag with a small amount (couple tablespoons is enough) of moistened soilless mix. Let them hang out at room temperature for 2 months, then park the bag in the fridge for two more months. After that (mid-Sept or so), sow them in a pot outside. You should get seedlings before frost.

They'll overwinter fine in the pot, but I take mine inside for the winter and grow them on under lights. That way, you have nice-sized seedlings with several sets of leaves to plant out come spring.
