Blueberries like consistant moisture- have you been watering them enough?

When it's hot, everything needs more water. And mulch the soil around the plants with 3-4 inches of a good mulch so the moisture stays there instead of evaporating in the hot sun or running off when you water it. A slow soaking is best. It might be too late for your blueberry but it won't hurt to give it a try now. The roots might still be alive even though the top growth has died. If you scrape the bark off a small area and see green underneath, it's worth a try.

In fact it hasn't been a hot summer at all. Your blueberries need water. The heat is not an issue.

I have read that in the Washington Metropolitan area, everything needs about 2 inches of rain a week to thrive, plus mulch I suppose. So watering is a must. Good luck.

It hasn't been extremely hot but we went from very cool and damp to moderately hot and dry with little transition to let plants adapt. Lots of things are under enormous stress already after 3 years of drought and then 2 years of above average water. It doesn't take much added stress to do them in. MOST plants survive very well on 1" of water a week most of the year but may need more if they are in the sun in hot weather and less during cloudy cool weather. The plants will tell you if they need water if you check them regularly. Soft, limp, droopy leaves are usually the first sign. Brown crispy leaves mean it might be too late!

But many plants will droop around midday, or direct sun even if they have enough water. Impatiens will, and then you can overwater. My moonvine also does this. So I wander around with black nails and cuticles from sticking my finger in the dirt!

Our heat here in southern ontario has been intense in the past two weeks,getting close to 100 degrees,so almost everything in my garden wilts in the afternoon sun.
Everything comes back to normal however as soon as the sun sets.
I understand it's just the plants way of conserving moisture during the hottestparts of the day.
