small-engine repair?

Anyone know a good place to get a Honda mini-tiller repaired in PG County/Northern VA or vicinity?

My beloved little tiller appears to have transmission problems after jamming up with one too many small rocks; the engine roars but the tiller rotors only engage intermittently. It's long out of warranty and I bought it (new in the original box) from a pawn shop, so don't know where to take the poor little dear.

I know of one shop on Old 450 near Kenilworth in Bladensburg, but the guy ripped me off big time last spring, so I am reluctant to go back there...

Thanks!

Lynn

Stay away from MArlboro motors
There is a group on alexander ferry road maybe 1/2mile or so on the left beyond the AFB Va ave gate. nearer to cheltenham rd.
than branch ave.
When he had it out of his back yard he was John's lawnmower repair. I am not sure what he calls himself now, but I have dealt with him and would go back if I had need to do so. Traded in my lawnmower last year when The state had the gas for electric swap,.

I've now spoken to half a dozen Honda places, including the factory -- all say that it's a common problem, but that you can't buy individual parts to fix this, only a replacement tranny, which would be $175 for the unit plus install costs (est $75 more at most places, and I'm not about to try to do this myself). So at $250 to fix it, I guess I'll be spending $300 for a new one instead...

Thanks, folks -- anyone want a dead tiller for free? If you install the new tranny yourself, it'd be half the price of a new one...

I don't approve of tilling, but I know some that do....

Are you planning to come to the fall MAG plant swap?
If so......

Additives don't help when the plastic worm gear has failed!

My neighbor is a shade-tree mechanic; I paid him (in beer and homemade shrimp quiche) to swap in a replacement transmission -- so I'm back in business! Sorry, Dr Dirt!

Personally, I've had good luck with Marlboro Mowers fixing a lawn mower and sharpening blades.

We've bought a weed wacker from Lanham Cycle and Turf, but no repair work by them yet. Check Washington Consumer Checkbook (www.checkbook.org). Good luck!
