I don't know why this plant is now on a summer schedule, but it's now in bloom in the middle of the summer for the second straight year. Used to bloom in early spring and it's been getting the same growing conditions for a long time.

Larry, I've had my clivia for 25 yrs and it generally always bloomed in the spring...UNTIL...we moved to a place where I could summer it outdoors. Now it blooms off and on throughout the summer...sometimes. There was one or 2 times (when it was indoors) that it bloomed in the late fall. Oh, and there was once that it had a yellow flower but the flower was deformed.

Clivia bloom best in the winter if they have had a cold spell, e.g., if you leave them out in the late fall and they get pretty cold (not frozen though. The cold spell in May may actually have prompted this bloom. I got this info from a clivia expert at the the Philadelphia flower show.

Mostly the clivia stays indoors, although I put it out in the fall for a few weeks to try and stimulate a bloom. Usually this seems to work and it flowers in early spring. Except for the past 2 years.
