According to U.S. National Arboretum experience, zone 7 Camellias might do well for several winters in Maryland and then die after some especially hard frost. For this reason I am trying to stick with zone 6 varieties. Of course, this limits the selection. I bought some zone 7 cultivars this year, I will try to plant them in the most protected area of my yard. Will see...
If anyone grows tender Camellias here in Maryland, please share your experience.

I'd like to know the names of some of the cold hardy camellias. Any that I've grown have failed, even in protected areas. Some will look good for a few years but they'll slowly die back, branch by branch. My Mom used to grow gorgeous camellias when I was growing up. That was in Bethesda so it's only a very short distance from where I am now.

I bought 5-6 cold hardy Camellias at Lowe's and online. Also, Behnke's nursery and Betty's Azalea farm (VA) have nice selection of them.

Alina thanks for the link. I have a hedge of Japanese hollies that I hate and would love to replace with camellias.
