Eastern Filbert Blight

I am interested in purchasing Corylus avellana 'Contorta' - Henry Lauder's Walking Stick. Has anyone had experience with Eastern Filbert Blight in the Maryland suburbs (not far from DC)? I can't quite tell if it has gotten to this area and how risky it is. I love the shape of this tree but may need to purchase the more resistant 'Red Dragon' in its place. Any thoughts?

In Carroll County, several of my garden club friends have lost H.L. Walking Stick to blight...

Yes it's a shame nurseries still sell the susceptible cultivars, but they sure do. I've seen a couple just in the past year.
