Trellis Bids

I'm posting this both on this forum and the Landscape Design forum.

I've gotten several bids on constructing my 10x14' trellis, using good-grade pressure-treated wood, and some custom work.

Two bids are from "landscape" contractors in the neighborhood of $2500. The other bids are from individuals or general contractors (who have built decks, and possibly cabinetry) in the range of $1100-$1400.

I've been advised that landscape contractors generally take the cost of materials/labor and multiply by 3 in order to cover all their costs.

I'm having difficulty deciding which "class" of contractor to choose from. The two landscape contractors are recommended, so I know I'll get a good product from them. On the other hand, I don't want to pay more if a general contractor can do the job as, or nearly as, well.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

    Have you seen their work?
Not everyone has the same skill levels
ask to see something they have done that is similar to your project
