Bougainvillia

My hanging pot of Bougie was out on my patio all summer and bloomed beautifully. To my surprise, as the weather got colder in middle October, i bring in my plants to a south exposure window...its now been indoors for 2 weeks and none of the leaves dropped as they usually do when changing the environment from 5-6 hours of direct sun on the patio, to maybe a couple of hours or even less indoors. Isn't this unusual? I don't know how to treat it? One book says that after blooming it would be a good idea to prune the branches to the second node. I am hesitant in doing this, fearing it may really do harm to my plant.
