Asclepias syriaca cutworm'd (sigh)

I put in a small pot of A. syriaca to see how it'd do, the emergent sprout was quite strong, certainly a year or year and a half old plant, and reached about 1 to 1.5 inches before it was cut down by those other lepidopteran pests that I'd like to smash. Lol, I plant for monarchs, but I hate cutworms..oh well )

Anyway, is it likely that the root will push forth new growth this year, or did the cutworm do me in totally for the pot ?
