Who'da thought?

I work for a non profit with a rather intimidating boss. A BIG donor gave her milkweed seeds in the pods, in a plastic bag, and my boss handed them to me in February or March with the instructions to make them grow.

I have never grown milkweed from seed. And I don't know which these are.

So I put them under a slotted wooden table in my garden, and I forgot about them. I figured I'd buy milkweed and lie that I grew them : (

Last week (mid May) I found the now-wet bag and was about to toss it when I saw green sprouts! They'd sprouted! I had baby milkweeds!

I put them in starter soil and they took!

So my question is: Will the grow up this season? May I put them in the ground when they develop nice roots? If not, do I keep them in pots until next spring?

Thanks.
