I am now processing my pumpkins for freezing. I have saved as many seeds as I need and enough for local gardening pals.
Would any of my GardenWeb pals like to give this beautiful pumpkin a try? For SASE I will forward seeds to you. They are truly beautiful as they turn from orange to red. They are usually solid red, but sometimes they are mottled or streaked.
They are for eating, period. The wall of the pumpkin is very thick and there is not much of a cavity, so they are not suitable for carving for Halloween. Also, they have a higher than usual sugar content, and would rot more quickly when cut.
It is much easier to split the Rouge Vif in half for cleaning and baking, and the pulp scoops away from the rind more easily and cleanly when baked than with other pumpkins.
If you raise your pumpkins mainly for eating, this is the pumpkin you want. Let me know if you are interested and I will send you my address to send the SASE. Carmellia
