Growing peanuts in Minnesota?

Just curious if anyone has had luck growing their own peanuts this far north? Perhaps started indoors to give them a jump on the season? Thanks.

Hey-I actually did grow some one year back in my 'vegetable' days. They took forever to reach maturity and finally, sometime in October I picked my peanuts out of the ground.
Even though I did get a crop, I learned that it is far better for folks in Georgia to grow them than it is up here. Just not worth the time and space when so many other things will do better here.

If you try it, please write about it! My mom tries to talk me into it every year - she swears that her grandpa grew them every summer and never had any problems! :)

I grew peanuts in southern MN years ago. Decided that one has to eat a lot of peanuts to make it worth the bother.

Last summer I found a peanut plant growing in one of my pots. Guess a squirrel needed a hiding place. It was too late to produce any peanuts but I kept it growing for the novelty of it for the kids in the area.
