Congratulations! And because it's winter, yes, I AM thinking of flowers:) I've been checking my bulbs in storage and looking through my garden journal from past summers with anticipation of Spring. Anyway, I checked my pictures and the two flowers that I have blooming the first week in June (zone 3)are iris and lupine. There are some nice white iris out there. I'm not sure how lupine do as a cut flower. I'd be interested to know.

That is helpful. I'm putting lupine on the list, I can test that this year and see how they last as a cut flower. I was thinking Poppies too? They're up early summer aren't they? Luckily my mother has white peonies, that will look beautiful I think. Thanks guys, any more ideas are greatly appreciated!

Last May/June my Lychnis Flos Cuculii and Lychnis Vascaria were in full bloom. I planted them as seedlings the fall prior to them blooming. Everyone at my plant sale commented about them; I was impressed with them too - nice airy/delcate looking blooms.

Also blooming were - pink yarrow, Spiderwort (Tradescantia) both 'Red Cloud' & 'Pink Chablis' varieties, Salvia Maynight, Centaurea Montana (established plants) and several varieties of Iris.

I second the use of peonies for June 1 planning (especially since there are cultivars with red or white flowers). Bearded irises and shasta daisies bloom then, too.

Depending on how far south in Minnesota you are, aren't lilies-of-the valley blooming in early June?

Just a note on the peonies. I have not tried this but I have read that you can cut them when buds are in the "marshmallow" stage, wrap them in newspaper and store them in a spare refrigerator until needed.

Lily of the Valley was included in my mom's wedding bouquet (1920's). They were attached to slim white silk ribbons which hung down from her bouquet. I duplicated the idea for my wedding.

Baptisia australis is very nice with peonies ... sort of spiky to their round shape. Maybe you could find the white one.
