I'm in Dakota County also (Apple Valley). I have had difficulty finding information on clubs so I can't give you any advice with that. However in the ThisWeek newspaper there was a listing for an Apple Valley Garden Club for Thursday, February 28. Email if your interested and I'll give you the details.

Try going to www.northerngardener.org, on the far right find garden clubs,in the drop down menu click on list of clubs. It will show a state map divided into districts. Click on the district that covers your area and you should see a list of clubs there with contact information. There may be other clubs in your area not affiliated with the state Hort Society, but this should at least give you a starting point.

Also check with your county extension office. The master gardeners of all of the counties near me have an annual spring gardening event (see the thread on this for details).

They should be able to provide you with several resources.

If I lived in Dakota County I'd check out UMORE park, on Cty Rd 42 in Rosemount. It's run by the U of M extention service so I'd guess they have an education compontent. The Dakota County Master Gardeners also do a lot of work there.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum isn't in Dakota County, but not far either. They have a lot courses coming up this spring.

If you want to get a little more serious Dakota County Technical College has a well respected Landscape/Horticulture program. Classes there are all a semester long.

I have a site bookmarked that lists some of the garden clubs around the Twin Cities area. I'm not sure how often it's updated though. I tried emailing two of the addresses, and one came back as invalid. (I did double-check to make sure I didn't key it in wrong).

As far as classes, I check the newsletters of various cities around me, as well as local newspapers. Even some garden centers have free seminars and workshops too, so that may be an option. Or check out the U of M Extension - they run the Master Gardener program.
