Storm Damaged Peonies

Our property sustained a lot of damage from the Hugo storm last Memorial Day. My peonies were just starting to bud and afterwards it looked as through they'd been through a shredder! Only one peony, which was sheltered, made it through the storm. Please reassure me they will emerge even better this year! I have nine plants, total and would be sorry to see eight of them go.

Did you have any regrowth of foliage after the storm? The same day most of my plants were shredded from a hail storm. All regrew during the rest of the summer and some even bloomed though later than usual.

Perennials are tough. Unless your plants were under water for a long time and roots rotted I expect they will be back this year.

I think they should be fine. Just give them a little time. I've had some take a real beating and they come back fine. Peonies are really hardy guys. Good Luck!
