We can only hope we don't get a killing hard frost all though I think the tulips will survive if we do. Only two years ago the durn deer ate the tulips off to the ground just as they were opening.

It can snow without actually going below freezing. Snow could actually help protect them it got cold. Tulips can frost and actually freeze pretty hard and be okay. Things that come up early in the spring have amazing freeze tolerance, otherwise they would not survive.

The Hostas near the foundation have leaves unfolding. Unreal.

This is definitely an unusual winter sowing season. In previous years most of my containers have germinated before mid-May and survived light frosts. By then perennials have grown enough that I have the tops off/open. If I know it is gong to freeze I put the tops back on though they can survive a light frost even without the tops. If they have grown so much that they are touching the sides of the container there might be some die back on those leaves if we have a hard frost.

Same for hardy annuals which can take a light frost.

Tender annuals may be okay if it is a light frost and not long. The containers should protect them. If they have outgrown the container then I would cover them or take them inside the garage just until the temps get above freezing. Then put them back outside.

Perennials in the garden should be okay. Even if we get a hard frost they will come back though might lose their buds and will either not bloom this year or bloom later.

On the east side of the house the daffodils are in full bloom. Hyacinth blooms are filling out and the dark blue squill blooms are brightening up a corner.

I figure if we get cold weather that the containers will protect my winter sowing.
