Bunny pruning

Happy Spring! It looks as though the "Miss Kim" lilac hedge I planted last year came through the winter fairly well. One plant was damaged by an overzealous garbage collector and another plant has had the buds nibbled off by bunnies (?). I have pruned off the broken branches, but should I prune back the branches where the buds have been nibbled? Or do you think they may resprout? A few years ago, I had a small lilac plant that my neighbor accidentally mowed over when making a wide turn. The lilac came back nice and thick from the roots. Perhaps it would be best to lop off the bunny damage to the ground? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Andie
