Is there much road salt applied on your street in winter? That might be a factor in plant choices. Not sure how salt tolerant these are but may be worth checking out, creeping thyme or groundcover veronicas might work, also some creeping sedums though depending on how much foot traffic is there the thyme may be a good choice.

I have native; hardy geraniums, pussy toes and wild violets as low spreading ground covers on my curb in Mpls. A native taller one is milkweed. Day lilies work well and ribbon grass if that is all you want.
