Raspberries attacked by red sticks!!!

I'm in big trouble. My wife is away for an extended period and I must cope. We have found a very large raspberry patch in our woods's. It is very thick and weedy, but worse, there are these RED things growing up in it. I am fairly certain they are sumac, since there are the same RED things, larger, in other areas. Am I safe in nipping those things out of my raspberries? I want to check with you folks so I don't make a dumb mistake.

A mistake I will live with all summer. I may have other questions soon. Thank you.

Could be red twig dogwood, wild roses, or they could be young new raspberry canes. Sumac has red fruit clusters but the stems are brown. Whatever they are you will probably have to apply brush killer to the cut stems in the fall to kill them, otherwise these red things will probably grow back after you cut them.
