I started my dahlia on 3/13 (about the same time as last year). They get a just slightly too big (1 quart pots) by the time I plant them outside-so I think right now would be a perfect time to start them. Calla and elephant ears should also be just right (good luck getting the calla lily to bloom the 2nd year though).

Trick I learned on begonia corms from my grandma is to start them in pots indoors. I started mine a couple weeks ago already - gives them a longer bloom time and stronger root systems for bigger corms. I presume for those more vigerous ones that now inside in pots would be great.

I started dahlia bulbs peruvian daffodills and an elaphant ears in mid march, they are in the cold garage,we do have a wood burner in there but it is not always running. The only thing sprouting up is 1 elephant ear but that was up befor I planted it.. I am just hoping they are getting good roots..
Asiatics,are in the basement bathroom most are up.( I have a huge mess in there)with my seedling that I moved from the room upstairs.Most are doing great..

I put all in Miracle grow- and watered most of them. I really dont want to encourage the Canna too much yet.... I wish I had enough bottom heat to really get things started. Maybe on another very sunny day I will plunk the pots right on the black asphalt driveway for a while...
