10-20-20 in the Twin Cities

Hi,

I live in the Roseville/Shoreview area and need to find some 10-20-20 fertilizer for my dahlia beds. I tried all sorts of NPK ratios the previous 2 years and got ok results. However, those growers in WA & OR usually recommend the 10-20-20 fertilizer and I'd really like to give it a try this year. Only problem is I only know one feed store around here. At first they said they had 10-20-20, just not in stock. When I checked again, they said they were wrong. It's 20-10-10 that they have. Does anybody know where 10-20-20 can be purchased here??? I'm willing to drive for an hour if need be.

Ross's Evergreen Feeder is 10-20-20, Ace Hardware. But it's meant to be used with a wand applicator for deep roots so applying it might be a problem.

You could try calling a rural fertilzer plant (like Cenex) and ask them to make you some, or you may have to use 10-10-10 (easier to find) and ammend it with bonemeal and wood ashes for more P and K. You might have to google for a recipe?

I've seen the Ross product before at Ace but wasn't sure if it was slow release. I probably will end up ordering the 10-20-20 from Mclendon's. Thanks!

I was just reading a dahlia article which recommended tomatoe fertilizer. I too am planning on using a low nitrogen number on my dahlias this year. Just ordered quite a few more from growers out west.. Where are you Tracy?
I may have some extra tubers from those I dug last fall.
I am currently checking for those that are viable.

Hi Lynn,

I'm in Arden Hills, very near the Arden Hills, Shoreview, Roseville border. The tubers I saved last season all rotted. I kept them in my garage and I guess it was way too cold. My basement was too warm so I couldn't leave them down there. Where did you store yours??

I ended up ordering, I think, 23 tubers and 7 cuttings from several growers out west. Just received 8 today from Connell's plus they gave me 2 more free!!! What a surprise! I'm regretting that I ordered so many though because I'm not sure I have the time to make enough raised beds in the garden for them. I will try to improve the soil and nutrients this year though. Cory Wynn at Wynn's Dahlias said to try topsoil and 10-20-20(once during planting & side dress in mid summer).
