Rhododendron never blooms

nonthumb

I have a rhododendron that I planted two years ago, and it has never blossomed. I think it's a northern star or starburst or something like that, I still have the tag somewhere. Anyway, I planted it in a fairly shady spot, and I thought the soil might be sufficiently acidic since there's a big pine tree in the yard next door and the needles always fall in the garden. The soil is pretty clayey but is supposed to have good drainage. The shrub still isn't very big, maybe a foot high, and always shows new leaf growth, but no buds or blossoms. Is it just too soon? Does anyone have any ideas? It's so disheartening since all my neighbors have such big, beautiful blooming rhododendrons!
