Japanese Cedar in Twin Cities???

Some friends from Mpls were visiting me recently and they were admiring my Japanese Cedar tree (Cryptomeria). They were wondering if it would grow in the Twin Cities, and I didn't have an answer for them. Some web sites claim the tree is only hardy to zone 6. Others to zone 5. I know many of you are zone pushers, so I thought you would know best. Any sightings of this tree in your area???

RE: Japanese Cedar in Twin Cities???

I tried a few dwarfs back when we had real winters and none made it more than two winters. This was on a large north facing hill where they received lots of snow and absolutely no winter sun. Now with the wimpy winters we have had for the last 3-4 years, maybe a dwarf would survive, but certainly not a tree.
