zone 5 perennials

Hi there, I live in the coooold northern part of Minnesota, and would like some advise. I love the look of some of the zone 5 perennials, which of course I have to treat as annuals up here. But what I was wondering is this, could plant things like Agastachie rupestris, Black and Blue Salvia and Guara, into 1/2 gallon pots. Bury them for the summer, then dig them out and over winter them in my basement?

I don't have a garage or building that is heated, and my basement is just cool, not cold. Last winter I kept some lantana down there under lights, and it looked good! UNTIL I put it outside, where the leaves dried up and died! LOL I should have hardened it off, and planned to, but forgot to bring it in. I am hoping it comes back from the roots.

What do you all think?
