Does anyone know when to start looking for these beauties? The hubby has an itch to start searching and wants to know.

Thanks!

Lynn

I havn't seen any sign yet here in the cities. We usually have a few- but not until after the apple blossoms are gone- and before the lilacs fade. That is as close as I can get to a discriptive time frame.

Not unless it warms up nicely after a rain.... that's assuming Morels act the same way here that they did in Nebraska! I think, back there, it was usually sometime in May.

Morels are fun to hunt. A friend of mine just brought some from Iowa, and they were very yummy. There are several message boards at morels.com and I really like the weekly maps of nationwide reported finds with data for the past several years.

Karl - thanks for the link! I'll tell Clayton to go look. We were looking for asparagus last night, but haven't seen anything up yet.

    Good mushrooming folks!

Start looking for them under hardwood trees. Especially after a rain. Also, if there is an area that has burned. There is a website, it think it is mushroom world, and it shows the timing for each state. In your state it said after april 12.
Honestly, it is different every year. Once it hits 70 degrees, go looking!
