Carmellia, you probably got it from Cheri, she is the "Plume Poppy queen"! LOL
You could e-mail her and see what she can tell you I know she has lots of them. I got two last year and so far they have not spread at all, but I have heard they can be invasive, too.

I've had plume poppy. It can be vigorous at times, but I think it's really easy to pull up. It's impressive to see when full grown and in bloom.

Yes, very shallow-rooted. I just yank the ones I don't want. Don't know about re-seeding. I think a sunk-in container would be helpful if you're worried about being able to keep up with its vigor.

Plume poppy is indeed very invasive, sending out roots about 6 inches underground. However it is pretty and dramatic. I find that if I pull it out in the fall, maybe leaving one plant, I can keep it under control. If you pull it out in the spring the broken roots regenerate.

I've had plume poppy escape any underground barrier with which I've ever tried to contain it, and I've tried many times. Despite its supposedly shallow roots, it still managed to go two feet under the barrier and go crazy (I'd left a 6-inch lip on the top, so it didn't escape that way).

I wouldn't put it in a mixed border (I tried it and it was a BIG mistake). For the past 10 years I've had it in an area where I can mow around it and it is truly worth the trouble as it is a unique and stately plant.

I should mention that I have really great rich soil, no rocks, no clay, and plants tend to spread quickly for me. You might find your conditons quite different.
