Anyone ever see a Verbascum like this?

I started Verbascum from seed a few years ago and spread the plants around. So far I've been really diappointed in them. The flowers are small and not that showy. I've been planning to just yank them out.

I went walking in my woods this weekend and came across this. It's spectacular. I think I'm in love. I'm calling it 'Purple Passion'. Is this atypical for Verbascum ?.
