Well, I though I read somewhere that bunnies would not eat marigolds. So, I planted marigolds all along the edge of a flower bed. They were looking great and had flower buds starting...

I went out to look at them yesterday and most of them are just tiny stems sticking out of the ground and the rest are twigs with the flower bud being the only thing left. In this bed all my sunflowers have also been gnawed away. I'm not sure if it's rabbits or deer or what - darn critters!

The flower bed is in my front yard so I don't want to have chicken wire around it - would appreciate any non-expensive ideas. The flowers that have been gnawed off are probably beyond saving - but I'd like to replant the bed.
