Virginia Creeper for Shade?

Ok, I bought one of these today in hopes that it'll tackle a problem for me.

Back story.

I have a 100' wide lot, along which I have a (mostly) hosta garden. My neighbor to the rear does not take care of his "woods" like my next door neighbor and I do, and I want to create a "screen" for that. Curently, we have a make-shift fence made from 4' green metal stakes and some rabbit fencing (quite necessary in spring when the hosta are emerging) and right now, that fence goes about 1/2 way across those 100'. It wraps around 2 very large box elders (HATE!) and a 3rd tree (not as big) that do a lot to shield us from looking at the neighbor.

The Virginia Creeper I bough has stems up to about 3' long. The area is pretty heavily shaded, but does get a good amount of morning sun in many places, but some other places are complete shade.

Here are my questions:

1. How much fence coverage do you think that 1 of these plants will get me within a year or so?

2. How will it do in full shade?

3. Do you water yours anymore than the rest of the garden?

4. How much work will it be to keep the VC out of my beds and contain it on the fence?

5. Will it strangle the big trees?

Anything else you can tell me?

Thanks,

Melissa
