Newport Purple Leaf Plum Tree

I found a good bargain on a couple of Newport Purple-Leaf plum trees at a local nursery and am wanting to purchase them. I've been researching the tree and currently have mixed thoughts on it. It appears to be "borderline" hardy here (twin cities), with some resources claiming it is only hardy to zone 5 (most state that it is hardy to zone 4 and one indicated zone 4b). It also appears to be susceptible to various diseases. However, it is the most hardy of the purple-leaf plum trees (having been developed here in Minnesota and named after the city Newport, Minnesota).

Anyways, the trees are very attractive, a good deal, and would accomplish my goal for a couple of trees (privacy border and more color in my yard).

Does anyone have this tree or know anything further about it? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated before I "take the leap" and purchase them. Thanks.
