Shade ground covers?

Hi, I have a large area that is around our newly dug fire pit that will not grow grass due to very low light and some competing tree roots. It neighbors my newly created woodland/hosta garden and some grass. I do plan on edging it with the black plastic stuff. I am willing to water in the plants to help them establish, but I am hoping this area will quickly become maintenance free/very low maintenance.

I am hoping for something that will fill in quite quickly (hopefully yet this year), so something that is nearly invasive would be good. I can control the above ground runners, but I want to make sure there aren't any below ground.

I'm thinking I'm gonna try some Creeping Jenny (the lime green kind) or possibly some Ajuga (Burgandy Glow).

Can anyone offer any thoughts here?
