Is that your garden in picture three? If not, and it belongs to the neighbor, I cant see any reason to NOT put a fence in front of their beds. A sense of containment makes a yard feel so much bigger, for some reason.
Of course, there is plenty of room in photos one and two.
Please do check with your city or township about legalities about fencing and set backs and all that legal stuff.

Yes, that is our garden in pic #3. It is an angle shot of the same garden you see in pic #2. Thanks for the input and thank you for the compliments! We are in the throes of a lot of hard work right now to make things a little better. I hope it works out.

Yes, I could see a split rail going there. Judging from the shadows in the pictures, a solid fence might give you too much shade for the plants to be happy. I have so many trees in my yard that sunlight is at a premium and I wouldn't want to block it for any reason.

Thanks, Lynette. Our front and back yards are like night and day. No daylight in back and not much in the way of shade out front. Although, the trees we planted when we built are just now starting to produce some shade.

If we decide to go with the fence idea it would probably be a little split rail....just a nice accent. Nothing that would really draw attention.
