Holy wow -- I am impressed! We just started to pick sugar snap peas but thinking I should have planted a lot more. Only getting enough to snack on rather than provide meals for the whole family... How many plants do you have to harvest so many peas?

My kids did enjoy fresh strawberry smoothies in today's hot/humid weather.

I have two 65 foot double rows, meaning 260 linear feet. The double rows intertwine and support each other, so it is really like picking two 65 foot rows rather than four 65 foot rows, if that makes any sense. :)

Harvested another bushel yesterday, which was two days after the first picking. Yield always drops after the first harvest, I expect to only get a bushel per picking from now on versus the two that I got the first time.

Image shows the results of the first harvest: Four full one gallon ziploc bags of shelled and blanched peas that went into the freezer. I screened out the oversize peas and put them in a separate bag. Rather than throw them away I use them in soups and stews where their chewiness is not as noticeable.

Lots of work for what you get? Sure, but what isn't when it comes to home gardening. The flavor of quickly processed fresh, hand-picked and hand-shelled peas is fantastic and that is what makes it all worth it. I will certainly enjoy them on the plate next winter when all the hard work will be long forgotten and all the bug bites long since healed.
