Trimming pole beans?

rubybaby43

Hi! I have what I feel like is a really stupid question but I am going to throw it out there anyway! This is the third year I have grown pole beans...I started out accidentally two years ago when I bought a mismarked envelope. But I kind of liked them. Veggie garden space is limited for me so this works well. Needless to say I had to quickly rig up a "fence" for them to climb.

Last year I bought a couple of cute little wooden fence sections that really aren't tall enough and so I try my best to train the ends to grow back down into the plants.

What I am wondering is if I trim the ends what will happen to the plant? I know the beans don't just grow on the ends. What I really wonder is will it shorten the life of the plants...OR...will I wind up with a bunch of forked ends that just keep growing longer thus doubling my vine-training duties?

Thanks for any input!

Kristy :)
