Need ID on this white flowered perennial

I just came home from a friends house. She has had this house for 4-5 years. The former owner planted hostas, daylilies and a huge patch of a white flowering perennial. The plants are about 18" tall and have a couple of stems per plant. The leaves are about 1/2" wide and 3" long. At the top of the plant is a white flower that is shaped like a hyacinth, except it is 3-4" long and about 1" wide. It is not astible or anything I've seen before. Sorry I could not get a photo.

Any suggestions.

Thank you for responding Kristy....but that is not the plant. The flowers are at the top(peak) of the plant and are shaped like a hyacinth flower.

Got to get a picture and post it here. I am sure once I do, alot of people will chime in and it will probably be something fairly common.

I had to throw something out there! LOL! I googled white perennials and looked at images and there were so many pages of them! But nothing really looked like what you described. I'm curious to see what it is. I hope you are able to get a photo soon.

How about white liatris? A young plant might have only a few stems.

The flower bunch on a false solomon's seal would seem like a hyacinth flower to me. What exactly do you mean by that, then?

Are leaves arraged opposite of each other, or alternate?

Is it single stems from the ground, or branched stems?

Are you hinting that they look somewhat like an astilbe?

How many petals per flower?

Does it grow in sun or shade?

Are stems stiff, straight and vertical?
Or arching?
