My neighbors have phlox along their garage on the alley side. Very pretty right now, but now very interesting the rest of the year. Maybe you could do a mix of plants since you have 25 feet.

I agree with Ginkgonut...I would use a number of different plants to cover the seasons with color. Phlox, asiatic lilies, iris, russian sage, rudbeckia, asters, yarrow, daylilies, and heliopsis are all tough, tried and true perennials that would give you color from May to September. Yes! Some tall, some short. Some early, mid and late. Have fun! Or if you'd be like me, it would be whatever I could get by trade and see if it likes it there.

Well, I bought 3 Panicum Ruby Ribbons and 9 Panicum virgatum Shenandoah from Santarosa Gardens. I will look for some tall flowers to go in between the grasses. I may give in and put a few of the Day Lilies back in.

Here's a picture just after the grasses were planted. I expect they should fill in the whole space next year!
