Blue Spruce troubles...

We just bought a property that the previous owner transplanted blue spruce trees, 20 foot range, about 5 years ago. Some of the trees have a LOT of sap flowing down the trunk and small holes (like a drill would make) going up and down the trunk, where the sap is. The trees look really tough, the branches are starting to curl on the edges and losing needles, and not the beautiful blue spruce color. Any help will be appreciated, or maybe someone can direct me to a website? I have pictures of the trees. TIA Brenda

There are several diseases that Colorado Blue Spruce are susceptible to. Also the holes sound like possibly you've had sapsuckers (birds) going at the trees. Perhaps you could take some pictures and sen or take to your local county extension office. Someone there should be able to help you.

Here is a link that might be useful: Spruce diseases

Another thought; have you had a lawn service spray your yard this season? There have been many evergreen deaths this year due to a new herbicide called Imprelis. It has just been banned by the EPA.
