Gigantic water lilies at the conservatory

I live right near it - heard they were coming (seen them at the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew) WELL worth seeing! Very cool! I'll see them sometime when I need a break during the winter.

I was there a week ago. The leaves are enormous, like small tables. There was an emerging flower, covered in spines. Not open yet, but beginning to yawn as it hoisted itself out of the water. Think 'Little Shop of Horrors.'

They won't be there in the winter. The pool is outside long the corridor between the old and new buildings. The plants are taken in and stored until the following season.
