A few weeks ago, a lady stopped and rang my doorbell. She was driving by and spotted the common mullein growing in my yard and just loved it. She stopped to ask what it was! I ended up giving her some seeds, and in return, she mailed me seeds of a flowering vine she calls Heather Bean. She tells me it has purple flowers. I don't seem to be having much luck finding info on it online. Are any of you familiar with it? If so, what can you tell me about it? Sun or Shade? Polite or invasive? Does it attract birds or butterflies? Is it perennial or annual? Anything else??? LOL

I bet she meant Hyacinth Bean. If so, it's my all-time favorite annual vine. Needs sun - will self seed, but not invasive - annual - I noticed a hummingbird around mine the other day. There's also a white form of this. Flowers have a nice fragrance.

My thought exactly....Hyacinth Bean. And it is stunning! I have it growing up and along my porch railings. The foliage is purplish green and the flowers are purple/pink/white, sort of similar to a sweet pea. Grow it...you'll love it! Linda

Thank you Kevin and Linda! I looked up Hyacinth Bean and I agree... it is gorgeous! If that's what my seeds prove to be I'll be thrilled. The lady that sent them to me did say the vines had beautiful flowers.

Joyce, the seeds look kind of like a black bean with a little white "lip" on one side. Linda

That's got to be it then, Linda! Final proof, 'cause the seeds match. I'm glad :-) Thanks
