Harvesting/Winterizing after an early snow in October?

It's October 10th and there's already snow on the ground and I had no time to cover my plants. I have roses and vegetables; jalapenos, habenaros, and cayennes; that I'm worried about in the garden. Should I harvest the vegies now? It started getting cold a weeks ago, but I left them in the garden to ripen a bit more.
Also, I'm not sure what to do about my roses I haven't been able to cut them down yet to cover them. Will the snow hurt them? Hopefully the snow will melt soon.

If your peppers didn't die last night, they are going to die tonight. I don't think the fruit is any good once it has frozen.

The snow isn't going to hurt your roses. I would be more worried about the predicted 22 degrees tonight. It is awfully early for such a cold night, especially after such a warm September.
