mini hosta wintering

I know this should be in the hosta forum, but many of those hostaholics don't have a real 'appreciation' of how cold it gets here when they give willing advice. I got some minis at Otten's in Orona this weekend and plan to plant them in containers next spring. Should I plant them in the ground like normal or plant them in their pots in the ground or what? Whatever I do, I'll mulch them well with shredded leaves.

I would sink the entire pot into the ground and then cover them because I wouldn't want to disturb the roots on them this fall-
I have several Great Expectations that are in sunken pots and have been that way for 3 years- need to move them out next spring. I did the same thing last year with new grafts of some picea that I had and they came back strong in the spring.

Definitely sink the pot or temporarily plant them in the ground, and mulch either way. Shouldn't be any problem.
