Tropical hibiscus care?

OK....with 40-odd brugmansias and half that many aroids not to mention cannas and dahlias to put into my basement every winter... now I'm getting antsy to try a couple of the incredible tropical hibiscus (hibiscii????LOL) folks have shared pix of in other forums.
Do any of you grow the tropical varieties here in MN? With my other botanical vices I don't have any window space to carry them over upstairs so might there be a way of encouraging dormancy such as I do with my brugs?
If not, I'll just have to appreciate them from afar but boy there are some gorgeous ones out there.

I used to overwinter tropical hibiscus in my basement under lights. After several years I sent them to Texas with my sister as got tired of fighting bugs, especially white flies. I did not try to see if they would go dormant. Didn't even think of it. Last winter I put mandovilla and fuchsia into dormancy. If I had a hibiscus I would try that also. |
