Ball liquid pectin does not work

I previously posted info about some cranberry pepper jelly that did not set. I made 35 jars using Ball liquid pectin as I found it at WalMart and it was much cheaper than Certo. Well, I made 5 more batches using Certo liquid pectin and it worked just fine. So, the Ball pectin was the problem.

I wonder if that was the problem with my elderberry jelly last year. I can't remember what my brand of pectin was, but I ended up with several jars of elderberry syrup. I think I am going to re-do and I will make sure I use the Certo. Carmellia

I've never been happy with the Ball liquid pectin. It doesn't set right if you have very acidic fruits or if your sugar is off at all. My aunt who cans several hundred jars every year says she uses nothing but Certo.

I agree, some of the pectins are more touchy to work with. But the only time I had problems with pectin was using an old pouch - so be sure to check the "wear date" on the package. I like Certo the best of the liquids. Lynn
